thankful and crossing off the to-do list

In the midst of our calm season, I'd planned to enjoy my morning home crossing off many things on my to-do list. I'd made myself a pot of coffee, sat at the computer in my warm, comfy clothes and glanced at item #1 on the list -  document November on the blog.

Silly me, I'd already done a post but forgot to post it.  So, now, I present to you a post on November and one big fat check mark on my to-do list. Yippee! I can now move onto Christmas shopping and wrapping presents.

November was a festive month for our family. We had one birthday, an anniversary and the long Thanksgiving weekend. It's a pleasant month for us because sports wind down and we slow down tremendously.  It's the perfect season to move at a slower speed-the days are shorter, the nights are longer and evenings at home are leisurely.

KK finished out her volleyball season with a sports banquet. She really enjoyed playing again this year and handled a new school schedule and sports demands beautifully.

We had so much fun celebrating her 13th birthday.  It was a great day for her. Her bestsie decorated her bedroom and later surprised her after school, jumping out from the back of my car and putting KK at risk of a heart attack.  Wish I would've recorded the awesomeness of the moment. Our family went to Benihana's for 2.5 hours of edible entertainment. It was the kids first time there and they were so impressed. After dinner, we arrived home to all the grandparents having happy hour in our living room, ready to celebrate their first grand baby. Thirteen gifts later and she was one happy girl.

Those are delicious orange creamsicle cupcakes I made for a night of fun with her girlfriends. These were so. dang. yummy.

B is playing flag football and we're really enjoying watching the games. The boys are determined, running at full force, eager to always cheer each other on.

C finished out another season of baseball undefeated - which most boys would be stoked about. However, he's bummed the season is over. It was a rather slow season, in terms of competition, but fun to watch the boys improve nonetheless.

J and I celebrated 15 years of bliss. Fifteen years that have gone so quickly- but filled with so much fun and awesome memories. We enjoyed a night out while the kids stayed home and laughter their way through watching our wedding reception.

Thanksgiving was a full day, as always. A few hours at home in the morning, followed by lunch with my family. After lunch, the obligatory nap took place while watching football. Good thing they napped so they could eat another meal with J's side of the family in the afternoon, and follow it up with a soccer game in the park.

We are fortunate enough not to host thanksgiving at our home, so while others are prepping their homes for turkey and guests, we are prepping our home for football fans and beer. Our Christmas tree was decked out in ASU decor, TV's were strategically placed in numerous locations and coolers were filled with necessary libations.

Despite our efforts in our "good luck" picture, we had an undesirable outcome from the big game. However, we had a fun day with friends cheering on our Devils. It was a nice way to end out the season. There's always next year...

Sadly, we removed the ASU ornaments from the tree but threw Elf into the DVD player and spirits were lifted as we decorated the tree. November was so good to us once again.

And now we prepare our hearts and homes for the birth of our Savior.  A month of preparation, so many parties and perspective. Happy Advent!
